Gone Fishin’ was created from four dumpster walls transforming a photo taken of the Golf Coast Panama City Beach, Florida Beach into sea of fishing gear living on the ocean floor. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, roughly twice the size of Texas, is made up of marine litter, nearly 46% of that is attributed to lost and improperly discarded fishing equipment. In addition to littering our waterways, ghost fishing gear like nets and ropes are responsible for trapping and killing hundreds of animal species, including turtles, seals, and birds as well as destroying marine habitats such as coral reefs. Discarded or lost fishing nets can weigh up to 10,000 pounds dragging martine litter to the seafloor with them.
